Obituary of George F. Snyder

George F. Snyder, 98, of Syracuse died on November 23, 2021.  George served in the US Army during WW2 and was in charge of the PX, mail delivery and food service for his company.  He retired from MetLife and also owned a Herald Journal delivery franchise.  Sports have been a part of George’s entire life.  His participation with softball has spanned over six decades.  He has won 11 gold medals and numerous Championships during his softball career, was inducted into the NYS Softball Hall of Fame in 2003 and the Greater Syracuse Sports Hall of Fame with his Senior Softball Team in 2009.  He has been a referee and umpire for many baseball, softball and soccer organizations.  He was also a former scout for the St. Louis Cardinals.  As an avid golfer, George had one hole-in-one.
He is pre-deceased by his wife Gail Parkinson, who died in 2020; his parents: George and Mary McArdle Snyder; an infant son Paul; and sisters: Arlene Crowe and Ann Renaud; and brother Donald.
He is survived by sons: George of Liverpool, David (Kim) of Liverpool, Daniel (Lisa) of North Syracuse; daughters: Nancy Hammond of Barre, VT, Carol Kaiser (Richard) of Liverpool, Robin (Michael) Ortega of South Pasadena, CA, Cindy (Anthony) Calgero of Syracuse; brother: Jack (Joan) of Syracuse, sisters: Donna (Edward) Carolin of Chemung, NY, Mary Kalil of Liverpool, JoAnn (Robert) Rendino of Baldwinsville; grandchildren: James Shuler, Daniel (Leslie) Hammond, Christopher (Miriam) Hammond, Joseph Hammond, Elizabeth (Lionel) Erdeley, Connor Snyder, Kimberly (Daniel) Bittel, Richard (Kelly) Kaiser Jr., Chauntie, Travis, Anna, and Aaliyah Ortega, Nate Wallon (Adrienne Donner), Nick (Cristina) Wallon, Chris (Tiffany) Wallon, Stephanie Wallon; great-grandchildren: Madelyn & Ryan Shuler, Alice, David, Laura, Michael Hammond, Hannah & Henry Hammond, Solone & Noemie Erdeley; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday December 2 at 10:30am in Blessed Sacrament Church with burial to follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.  Calling hours will be held Wednesday, December 1, from 4-7pm at the Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital at stjude.org.
