Obituary of Mertis Eugene Jones

Mertis Eugene Jones, 96, of O’Fallon, IL, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at St. Elizabeth Hospital. He was born July 8, 1925, in Eldorado, OK. Mertis was a decorated WWII Marine Veteran as well a talented electrical engineer and inventor. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #501 in Liverpool, NY and the United Methodist Church North Syracuse, NY.
Mertis was preceded in death by his parents; Mertis and Georgia Jones (nee Paden), his first wife; Joanne Jones (nee Mayfield), his second wife; Maude Jones, one son; Mertis E. Jones, Jr., 4 brothers and 1 sister; and one grandchild; Steven Jones.
Mertis survived by three children; Patricia Alphonso of San Diego, CA, Valorie Stalcup of Rapid City, ND, and Richard L. (Ericka) Jones of O’Fallon, IL, seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
