Obituary of Peter B. Volmes

    Peter B. Volmes, 93, of Syracuse, passed away on Sunday, September 12, 2021. Peter was born in Norwich, CT. He graduated from Norwich Academy. During his senior year he was a member of the State Championship Cross Country Team. Peter was a graduate of the Syracuse University College of Law and the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. He was a veteran of the US Army and served in Europe. 
    He retired after 40 years from the Post Standard and had formerly worked for the newspaper in New London, CT, the Norwich Bulletin.  Peter was also a correspondent for United Press International and had worked at various law firms. He was a president of the Syracuse Press Club and served on the board of the District Attorney’s Advisory Council. He had been a volunteer at Hope for Bereaved, and for Meals on Wheels. He was an active member of St. Alban’s Church and loved his church family. He always took great interest in others and was one of the friendliest people you could meet.  
    He was predeceased by his wife Adrienne, son Mark, sister Mary Kitos, and close friend Joanne Butler Sherman. He is survived by his daughter, Pamela Volmes of Cape Cod, and a granddaughter, April Naugle, of Syracuse.  
    Calling hours will be on Monday, September 20th from 4 to7pm at Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home, 3111 James Street, Syracuse. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 21st at 10am at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, 1308 Meadowbrook Drive, Syracuse. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
