Obituary of Daniel B. DeBona

Daniel Bernard DeBona passed away on August 16th at 73 after a brief illness. He died as he lived, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife Lisa, son Daniel, daughter Mariah, and sister Wanda. He was employed at OCM BOCES for over 30 years and retired as Principle of Secondary Programs. He took great satisfaction in cooking for his family, finding a good bargain, and landing a fish. He always found pleasure in working with his hands, engaging with strangers, and whittling down a stack of library books. He was never without a pocketknife, a full tank of gas, or a question and a comment about anything. Daniel will be missed dearly, his life and legacy woven into the lives of many. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please donate in his name to the Interreligious Food Consortium or In My Father’s Kitchen. Given the recent increase in COVID and out of respect for the hardworking nurses, doctors, and staff at Upstate and surrounding hospitals there will be no calling hours. There will be a public memorial mass on Saturday August 21st at 11:30 in Most Holy Rosary Church, 111 Roberts Ave, Syracuse, NY 13207. Masks will be required for those attending the service.
