Obituary of Kathleen Mary Marquardt
Please share a memory of Kathleen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Kathleen Mary Marquardt, 86, passed away at home on July 3, 2021, peacefully in her sleep, just as she had asked in her prayers. Kathy grew up on the Far West End of Syracuse, the only child of John and Agnes (Hair) McMoran. She graduated from The Convent School in 1953 and received her Executive Secretarial Degree from Kathrine Gibbs in Boston, Massachusetts.
Her first job was with Niagara Mohawk in the mailroom, and she worked her way up to secretary of several executives. While on a work sponsored ski trip to Vermont she met the love of her life, Robert Marquardt, who was also there on a work sponsored ski trip from General Electric. They married eight months later in September 1959.
A devoted wife and mother, Kathy stayed home in Baldwinsville and then in the Sedgwick Farms area of Syracuse, to raise her 2 children, now close to her husband's childhood home in Schiller Park. When the family moved in 1978 to Severna Park, Maryland, she went back to work at what would be her favorite job, secretary to the headmaster at Wroxetor-On-Severn school.
Only a few years later the family returned to Syracuse where she was thrilled to rekindle lifelong friendships and continue activities she and Robert enjoyed doing; Elder Hostel trips, Carribean vacations, visits to the St. Lawrence, and monthly dinner club. In 1997, Kathy retired after many years of secretarial service at Bond, Schoeneck and King. Her 2 grandchildren were the joys of her life and she remained active well into her 80's with water aerobics at the YMCA, weekly bridge with the dearest of friends, and caring for her beloved dog, Brandy.
Although we will miss her greatly, Kathy is more than happy to be back in the arms of her husband, who passed away eight years ago. She left her children a lifetime of cherished memories of a life well lived, with no regrets. She is survived by her daughter, Maria (Jim) Biel, and grandsons, Robert and Ryan, all of Syracuse, NY., her son, Eric Marquardt of Cortland, a sister-in-law, Nancy Marquardt of Skaneateles, and several nieces and nephews across the country.
