Obituary of Dr. JoAnne Sue Merluzzi

Dr. JoAnne Sue Merluzzi,63, of Florence Italy passed away in July of 2018. She was born in Syracuse, NY on February 8, 1955 the daughter of Anthony Merluzzi and the late Joan Smith Quackenbush. Dr. Merluzzi was a graduate of Bishop Luden High School, Onondaga Community College, and received her Bachelors in Science from Lemoyne College. Dr. Merluzzi attended the University of Florence and received her Doctorate in Medicine and Surgery in 2002. Dr. Merluzzi’s Dissertation was titled “Evaluation of the efficacy of disulfiram in the long- term treatment of chronic alcoholism”. Following that Dr. Merluzzi attended the school of Acupuncture from 2004 to 2008 in Florence, Italy. In her younger years Dr. Merluzzi worked with the Rescue Mission in the Alcohol Crisis Center. In 1987 She received the Love in Action award from the Rescue Mission for her Excellence and outstanding service and contributions to the Clients and Staff of the Alocohol Crisis Center. Dr. Merluzzi was predeceased by her brother Steven Merluzzi, her step mother Sharon Wade. She is survived by her father Anthony Merluzzi, her brother Anthony J. (Carolina) Merluzzi of Chandler AZ, several nieces and nephews her dear friend Debra Wade. Family and friends may call at Our Lady of Pompei on Saturday, June 5, from 9-10:00am.
