Obituary of John W. Van Markwyk

John W. Van Markwyk, 83, of Syracuse, passed away on April 30, 2021, with family by his side, at Upstate University Hospital. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He formerly worked for Ferrari Brothers Inc. in Elmsford, NY as an electrician and was a 50+ year member of the IBEW Local 3. He was a former EMT, volunteer, and Captain with the Peekskill Ambulance Corps. He enjoyed cooking, home renovations, animals, and traveling to The Hague, Netherlands, where he was born.
Left to honor and cherish his memory are his wife of 56 years, Katherine; sons: John (Stacey), Peter (Paige); daughter Nicole (David Rowe) Van Markwyk; and grandchildren Jack and Niko.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday May 29, 2021 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorial contributions be made to an animal rescue group of your choice.
