Anthony F. Modafferi, 85, of Syracuse, died on Thursday, December 31. He was a veteran of the US Navy and retired after 36 years of service from Niagara Mohawk. Tony loved his family, the Yankees, telling jokes, the Casino, and especially making people laugh. He was also a coach for many years with the Eastwood Bears. He is pre-deceased by his brothers Dominick and Paul Modafferi. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Florence; daughters: Angela (Ed) Ziemba of Brewerton, Christine (Rob Garry) Modafferi of Greenville, SC, Toni (Scott) Ouimet of Brewerton; sister-in-law Madeline Modafferi of Syracuse; grandchildren: Nicole & Rebecca Ziemba, Hannah, Eve & Jacob Garry; great-grandchildren: Landon, Declan & Vivienne Shaw; and several beloved nieces and nephews. A private service will be held at the Onondaga County Veterans Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Childrens Hospital.
