Obituary of Roger Lee MacDonald

Roger Lee MacDonald, 94, of Syracuse, died on Saturday, November 28 at Loretto. He was a veteran of the US Army 8th Air Force during WWII, stationed on Okinawa. Roger graduated from Syracuse University after attending night school while working. In 1987, he retired after 40 years as a senior trust officer at Marine Midland Bank. In his retirement, he worked for the Rosamond Gifford Foundation. Roger and his wife assisted friends and other family members with health and financial matters. He was a longtime member and served as a financial steward for the University United Methodist Church. Roger was an avid SU sports fan who also enjoyed the outdoors and hunting. He spent many winters in Georgia with his daughter’s family. He was honored to be the great-great-grandson of Ephraim Webster, the first white settler of Central New York. The MacDonald family wishes to thank Mary Ellen Hunt and family for their constant care giving during these last few years. They also thank the Menorah Home Health Care Aides and the 11th floor at Loretto, Memory Care Unit, for their care for Roger. He was pre-deceased by his wife Johanna and brother Milford W. MacDonald. He is survived by his sons: Thomas (Terry) and David (Vicki), both of Syracuse; daughter Susan (Anthony) Parrillo of Statesboro, GA; sister Marilyn M. McLean of Hilton Head, SC; grandchildren: Erin (Daniel) Holdridge, Michael (Stephanie) and Collin MacDonald, Anthony, Joseph, Victoria Parrillo; great grandchildren: Dylan & Kendall Holdridge, Tamaryn & Maximo MacDonald; and several cousins, nieces & nephews. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 16 at 1pm at the University United Methodist Church with burial to follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may greet the family from 12-1pm prior to the service at the church. Contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of CNY, 441 W Kirkpatrick St, Syracuse, NY 13204.
