John C. Murphy, 92, of Syracuse, died on Friday, November 27 at St. Joseph’s Hospital. John grew up on the North Side of Syracuse and graduated from North High School. As a young man, he worked on the railroad, before working for Eagan Real Estate in Syracuse. He retired as president from Eagan Real Estate. Family was John’s number one priority. He enjoyed spending his time with his children, grandchildren and family. He raised his family in Eastwood and was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament for 65 years. John enjoyed playing sports as a young man with his children and spending the summer months in Chatham, MA. John was a big supporter of Notre Dame. In the fall, he could be found attending football games in South Bend and around the country. He served in the US Army during the Korean War. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Gloria Ann (Cerio) Murphy; 6 children: Charles (Elizabeth) Murphy, Sharon (Don) Mion, Sheila (Karl) Schneider, John (Doug) Murphy, Brian (Katherine) Murphy, Mary (Denise) Murphy; 14 grandchildren: Kevin, Peter, Daniel, Thomas, Kathryn, Sara, Emily, Karl John, Brian, Marisa, Matthew, Kaleigh, Megan, Victoria; 9 great grandchildren: Robert, John C., Gabriella, Zachary, Bailey, Sage, Rose, Layne, William; brother Richard (Delores) Murphy; sisters: Joan Suebert, Suzanne Thomas, Connie (Tim) Foody; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be private.
