Obituary of Mary E. Dougherty

Mary E. Dougherty (nee Sullivan), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away on May 26th at the age of 97. She was predeceased by her husband, John F. Dougherty, and her brother John Sullivan Sr.

Mary was born in Newark, NY, and had lived in Eastwood for 92 years. She was a homemaker and loved spending time at her summer home on the St. Lawrence River and in Buffalo NY, Fairfax, VA, and Punta Gorda, FL, with her daughters and their families.   

Mary faithfully attended her beloved James Street United Methodist Church in Eastwood from the age of five. She remained an active member in church groups until the church closed two years ago. She was their longest living member.

She is survived by her two daughters, Patricia Small (William) of Fairfax VA, and Jacalyn Gelormini (Joseph) of Amherst NY; three grandchildren, William Small Jr. of Studio City, CA, Jeffrey Gelormini (Jennifer) of Tonawanda, NY, and Susanne Gelormini of Milan, Italy; one great grandson, Aiden Cwiok; a niece, Laurie Little of Merritt Island, FL,  a nephew, John Sullivan Jr. of Cocoa, FL; and her granddog, Rudy.

The family would like to thank Mary’s devoted neighbors and friends, especially Marty and Chris, Mark, and Marlene for their caring friendship over the years. 

Friends may call from 1:00-2:00 this Friday, June 22, at the Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home at 3111 James Street, Syracuse, NY 13206. A funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00 with burial at Collamer Cemetery.
