John M. “Jack” Pellenz, 99, finished his long happy life on Monday, July 24, 2017 and went home to be with his bride, Laura.  Jack was fortunate to have been able to live in his home except for the final 3 weeks of his life; which he spent on the third floor at Iroquois receiving excellent and compassionate care.  As a life long resident of Syracuse, Jack graduated from Eastwood High School and became an avid SU sports fan.  In his younger days, he participated in many bowling leagues at the Pastimes Athletic Club, enjoyed golfing & traveling with his wife, walked his dogs around Sunnycrest Park, and played pool & cards at his home with his family.  Above all, he loved to relax in his TV room taking in a Yankees baseball game.  Jack retired in 1981 as office manager from Universal Car Loading & Distributing in East Syracuse.  During retirement, Jack had worked at the Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home as a driver.
He was predeceased by his wife of 71 years, Laura who died in 2012, his son Peter, sisters: Lorene Thornton and Doris Able and son-in-law Thomas Shepardson.
His family includes his daughter Jacqueline Shepardson of Fayetteville, son John (Donna) Pellenz of Chittenango; his grandchildren: Chris (Tina) Shepardson, Peter (Karen) Shepardson, John (Linda) Pellenz, Laura (Edward Lentz) Shepardson, Jamie (Denise) Pellenz, Jeffrey (Michael) Pellenz, David (Jacqueline Pero) Pellenz; 11 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews including his longtime neighbor and dear friend, Mark Whitt, his dog Mickey, and multiple grand-pets.
The funeral mass will be held on Saturday at 10:30am in Blessed Sacrament Church with burial to follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.  Calling hours are Friday from 4-7PM at the Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home, 3111 James Street.
Memorial contributions may be made to Blessed Sacrament Church or Iroquois Nursing Home.
