Obituary of Gregory J. McClurkin

Gregory J. McClurkin, 53, of Syracuse, died on December 21, 2016 at Crouse Hospital. He was a graduate of Liverpool High School and the Peter Kumps Culinary School in NYC. Greg served in the US Army. He had been employed by the US Post Office for 13 years. He had formerly worked as a chef at Lake Shore Yacht and Country Club, a private chef at several SU Sororities, a chef at the Dickens Inn in Philadelphia and at the former Lyncourt Grill. He was a longtime member of the Salt City Dart League and the ATT Golf league. He enjoyed gardening, reading Science Fiction, golfing and listening to music, especially RUSH and the Grateful Dead. Greg was an avid sports fan and supported all SU sports, the Miami Dolphins and the Philadelphia Phillies. He was a big proponent of healthy living and organic foods. He was pre-deceased by his father Richard McClurkin and mother-in-law AnnMarie Russo. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Gina (Russo); daughters: Hannah M. and Emma J. McClurkin; his mother Barbara McClurkin; brother Richard (Maureen); sisters: Barbara (Kathy) McClurkin, Sarah (Erik) Whittle, Heather (Christopher) Leahey; niece Ava Leahey; nephews Ian and Ryan Leahey; father-in-law Samuel J. Russo, and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday from 4-7pm in the Blessed Sacrament Church. The funeral mass will be Thursday at 10:30 in the Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Blessed Sacrament School or Crouse Hospital.
