Obituary of Ruth H. Simone

Ruth Halbig Simone, a longtime resident of the Syracuse's northside, passed away at the Francis House on February 10, 2016. A graduate of Assumption High School in 1949, Ruth married her high school sweetheart Richard, in 1953. A lifelong member of Assumption Church, she was quite active in the faith community. She was a member of the Assumption Condolence Committee, Altar Society, St. Joseph the Worker Society, the Sedgwick Neighborhood Rosary Group and St. Charles of Borromeo Prayer Group, along with the Red Hat luncheon group. She was also a previous member of the Syracuse Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. She was predeceased by her daughter Susan M. Simone in 1980, her husband Richard in 2009, parents: Christopher Halbig, Hermina and Joseph Lang, her sister Theresia Scannell, along with brothers Edward Halbig and Michael Lang. She is survived by her son Richard C. (Catherine) of Syracuse; daughters: Teresa (Jon) Cleland of Syracuse, Mary (Vincent) Dell’Olio of Shrewsbury, MA; her nine grandchildren; Rachel, Stephen, Austin, Jessica, Jeffrey, Jillian, Susan, Julie, and Nicholas, and her four great-grand-children, Colton, Charlotte, Sadie and Will. Her fifth great grand-child is due in August. Ruth is also survived by her sister Catherine (Thomas) Kurtz, sister in-laws Delores Halbig and Mary Jane Lang, along with several cousins, nieces and nephews. She is also survived by numerous relatives in Germany. Ruth leaves behind a host of friends who have shared many wonderful memories over the years. Ruth’s children and grandchildren would like to express their gratitude to the staff at The Hearth at Greenpoint - for their kindness and willingness to share a laugh. Thanks to St. Joseph’s Hospital and a very special thank you to the Francis House for their exceptional care and compassion. Funeral services are Saturday at 10:30am in Assumption Church with burial to follow in Assumption Cemetery. Calling hours Friday from 4-7pm at the Frasier-Shepardson funeral home, 1217 N. Salina Street. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Assumption Church.
