Obituary of Charles F. Dower

Charles F. Dower, 98, died peacefully on Sunday, January 26, 2020 at the NYS Veterans Home in Montrose, NY surrounded by his family. He was born on November 24, 1921 in East Syracuse to Charles M. and Mary E. Dolan Dower. He had served with the US Army Air Corps during WWII stationed in China with LaFolette’s Flying Tigers. He retired from E.F. Houghton where he was a sales representative.
He married the love of his life, Katherine Hirsh on August 27, 1948. They raised six children in Eastwood and were devoted parishioners of Blessed Sacrament Church.
His wife Katherine died in 1991.
Mr. Dower is survived by his six children: M. Eileen Kelly (Rev. Steve Cook) of Quincy, MA; C. Michael (Anne) of Alexandria, VA; Barbara Ann (Donald) Hable of Longmont, CO; Karen Marie (Jonathan) Wohl of Katonah, NY; Richard H. (Laura) of Yonkers, NY; James (Hanna Seifu) of Jersey City, NJ; 13 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and extended loving family.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, January 30 from 4-7pm at the Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home. The funeral mass will be held on Friday at 10:30am in Blessed Sacrament Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Dewitt. Contributions may be made to the Blessed Sacrament Church Outreach Program.
