Obituary of Bernard F. Sims

Bernard F. “Red” Sims, 88, of Syracuse, died on Friday.  He was a veteran of the US Navy during the Korean War.  Bernie retired from the North Syracuse School District after 33 years as a guidance counselor.  His work with the BOCES students brought him great fulfillment.  He enjoyed gardening, was an avid baseball enthusiast, and was known for the quality of his building and painting.
He was predeceased by his beautiful wife of 45 years, Barbara and his brother Paul.
He is survived by his daughters: LuAnn and Susan Sims of Syracuse; son Jeffrey (Stacey, whom he greatly appreciated) of Pompey; brothers: Robert & Richard; sister Carol Porter; grandchildren: Anna (Sean) Abbott, Benjamin, Noah and Victoria Sims; great-grandson Theodore; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Bernie's caregivers Irene, Jane and Martha, as well as family friend, Beth for their compassion and dedication.  Hospice of CNY provided exceptional care during the final days.  
The funeral mass will be held on Saturday, February 23 at 10am in Blessed Sacrament Church with burial to follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.  Calling Hours are Friday from 4-6pm at the Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home, 3111 James St.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of CNY, 990 Seventh North Street, Liverpool, 13088 or the Camillus Erie Canal Park (the Sims Store), 109 East Way, Camillus, 13031.
