Obituary of Joseph LaBella

Please share a memory of Joseph to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Joseph LaBella, 89, of Syracuse, died on Saturday at Crouse Irving Hospital surrounded by family. He was a native of Syracuse, a Veteran of the Korean War, retired from the US Postal Service, and was an avid Orangeman and Yankee fan. He was affectionately referred to as the “Mayor of Syracuse” due to his engaging personality and because he knew just about everyone by name that he ever met and never forgot them. He was a long-time coach and umpire for Eastwood Little League and a member of the 5 Oaks Social Club. Joseph was pre-deceased by his beloved wife Sonya A. LaBella of 55 years and his brother Americo LaBella. He is survived by his brother Angelo LaBella and sister Fatima Mirra of Syracuse, and his 5 children; 2 sons: Joseph A. LaBella and Dr. John LaBella; 3 daughters: Dr. Lori Mosca, Diane Maloney, Mary Badger; 10 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and a loving extended family and friends at the Hearth on James. A private funeral service is planned for the spring when Joseph will be laid to rest next to his wife at Assumption Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sonya A. LaBella Memorial Scholarship Fund at Upstate Medical University. https://medalumni.upstate.edu/scholarshipgifts
