Obituary of Carol S. Pitoniak

Carol Pitoniak, 95, of Eastwood, (currently residing at The Hearth at Greenpoint) passed away Monday July 29. She was born on June 15, 1923 in Buffalo, NY but spent most of her life as a Syracusan. She retired from Carrier and subsequently had jobs with Stanley Products and the North Syracuse School System. Mrs. Pitoniak was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church. 

She was pre-deceased by her parents Joseph and Frances Gervasi, her husband Frank and son Tom Pitoniak; sisters: Eleanor ( Herman) Beiring and Josephine ( Richard) Finn; brothers: Samuel (Betty) Garvasi and Charles (Jean) Gervasi.

Her family includes her daughter: Cheryl (Peter) Ward of Liverpool; son: Jim (Rachel Matteson) of Parish; brother: Richard (Delores) Gervasi of Buffalo; sister: Frances (Gene) Botticcelli of San Diego, CA; daughter-in-law: Claudia Pitoniak of Bloomfield; grandchildren: Jennifer Ward, Michael (Heidi) Ward, Catherine (Jon) Turner, Timothy ( Heidi Burke) Pitoniak, Andrew (Michelle) Pitoniak; great-grandchildren: Anna, Ryan, Forest, Sage, Kylee, Tyler; and several nieces and nephews.

Carol’s Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 4th, at 9:00 am at Blessed Sacrament Church, 3127 James St, Syracuse, NY 13206. Burial will follow in St Mary’s Cemetery, Dewitt. Calling hours will be held on Friday, August 3rd  from 4:00 - 7:00 pm at the Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home, 3111 James Street, Syracuse. The family would like to thank the staff at The Hearth at Greenpoint in Liverpool and Lorretto Heath & Rehab for their care. Contributions may be made to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Blessed Sacrament Church.
