George J.  Walther Jr., 86, of Syracuse, died on Monday at Crouse Hospital after a brief illness.  He was a Veteran of the US Navy from 1951 to 1955 and served aboard the USS Tarawa.  He retired in 1988 as Deputy Auditor of ONBANK after 33 years of employment and worked as an accountant from 1989 - 2006 for the Onondaga County Health Department.  He was a former organist for the Manlius Methodist Church and has played at various Churches in the Central New York Area for over 45 years.  
George was a member of the Syracuse Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, Retirees of ONBANK, the former First English Lutheran Church and a former member of the Syracuse Optimist Club.  
He was predeceased by his father George J. Walther Sr, in 1984 and his mother Ruth Barbara Walther in 1995.  
A service of Remembrance is to take place on Friday at 10:00am in the Mausoleum of Woodlawn Cemetery.  There are no calling hours.  Friends wishing may contribute to Manlius Methodist Church, 111 Wesley Street, Manlius, NY 13104.  The Frasier-Shepardson Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
