JoAnn M. Griffin, 79, a lifelong resident of Syracuse, died on Friday at Crouse Hospital.  She had retired from Blue Cross & Blue Shield and formerly worked for Carpenter & McMahon Dental office and cared for a sick family member.  She was a communicant of St. Vincent DePaul Church and a member of the Altar & Rosary Society.  She enjoyed spending time at her camp on Wolfe Island, traveling to the Catskills, and returning to Ireland with her family.  JoAnn was proud of her Irish heritage that she shared with her late parents, Patrick and Bridget Carrig, who were born in County Kerry, Ireland.  In her younger days, she enjoyed variety shows in high school and also dancing with her husband.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Jeremiah; children: Martin (Mary Carole), Brigid (David) Lindsley, Patrick (Trisha), Maura (Bobby) Dirnhofer, Sheila (Leo) Trasente, Sean; grandchildren: Abby, Connor, Emily, Katie, Aidan, Jeremiah, Andy, Matt, Samantha, Leonardo; sister Patsy Holliday; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are Monday at 9:30 at the Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home and 10am in St. Vincent DePaul Church.  Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.  Calling hours are Sunday from 4-7pm at the funeral home, 3111 James Street.
