Obituary of Stanley Jerome Sizing

Jerry Sizing, 91, went home to the Lord on September 13, 2017.  Born in Syracuse, he was the  first born son of Stanley J. and Gertrude Castle Sizing, his loving and deceased parents. Jerry graduated from Most Holy Rosary High School in 1944, where one of his favorite memories was playing third base on Rosary's undefeated team.  
Upon graduation, Jerry enlisted in the US Navy during WW II, receiving the American Theater Medal, the Victory Medal, and the Asiatic Pacific Medal. Following Naval service, he enrolled at Syracuse University and graduated in 1950 from Indiana Institute of Technology with a BS degree in civil engineering.  
Following intern years with the Ohio Department of Highways and the consulting firm of Alden E. Stilson & Associates in Columbus, he returned home to join the AE firm of Sargent, Webster,
Crenshaw, & Folley in Syracuse as a structural engineer. He started his own practice Sizing Associates in 1976 following prior partnerships achieved with the firms of MacKnight, Kirmmse, French, & Sizing and Miller Sizing, Consulting Engineers. He subsequently was licensed in 5 states in addition to New York.  He was elected to and served as President of the local chapters of the New York State Society of Professional Engineers and the CNY Chapter of the American Concrete Institute. 
Jerry, together with wife Clara, fathered sons Mark, Matt, John, and Mike, all of whom were sports nuts as was he. He was active in the Manlius Little League as a coach for his sons' teams, and supported all their athletic activities. In later life Jerry greatly enjoyed gatherings with his extended family.
He is pre-deceased by his brothers: Donald, Fr. Theodore Sizing and sisters: Helen (Sizing)  Flynn, M. Beverly (Sizing) Pellow, and his daughter in-law, Irene Sizing.
Jerry is survived by his sons: Mark J. of Cicero, Matthew J. of Delray Beach, FL, John P. and wife, Laura, of Wellesley, MA, Michael J. and wife, Tina, of Little Torch Key, FL; brother Bruce and wife, Joyce, of Fayetteville; granddaughters Nicki, Jackie, Jessica Sizing; step-grandsons Benjamin and Nathan Sauter, and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, September 22, 2017 from 4:00-6:30 p.m. at the Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home with the funeral mass the following morning at
at 10am in Immaculate Conception Church in Fayetteville.  Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Dewitt.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or Dana Farber in Boston, MA in memory of son John’s beloved deceased wife, Irene.
