Barbara Bierman Sharkey, 94, entered into rest July 6, 2017 at her home in Augusta, Georgia. She was found peacefully sitting in her easy chair with Fox News on the TV, a glass of wine and some cheese and crackers by her side.   Barbara was born in Syracuse on March 6, 1923. Her parents were Thomas Barrett and Mary Barrett Russell Meisner.  She had three siblings Ruth Krause, Rita Weisnet, and Robert(Bobby) Barrett.  She married George W. Bierman also of Syracuse. She was beginning a career performing as an upcoming contralto but gave it up to raise her children.  She did however raise them to the sound of her beautiful voice and music was always around them.  Barbara was a military wife following George from Syracuse to Germany, to San Antonio to Malone and finally to Augusta, Georgia where they retired.  She loved her family and her Catholic faith. People talking with her never had any doubt as to her religious or political beliefs. George and Barbara had three children Barry, Bonnie and Bobby (died in infancy).  Following George’s death in 1980, she married one of her high school friends, Thomas Sharkey and remained in Augusta.  She is survived by her son Barry Bierman and his wife Judi, 16 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her parents and siblings, her husband George Wagner Bierman and her second husband Thomas Sharkey, and by two children: Bonnie Farricker and Bobby Bierman. The family will receive friends Sunday, July 16 from 3-5pm at the Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home, 3111 James Street.  Funeral Services will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church on Monday, July 17 at 10:30am with burial to follow at St Mary’s Cemetery.  Gifts in her memory can be made to Catholic Services.
