Obituary of The Rev. S. George Dirghalli

The Rev. S. George “Doc” Dirghalli, 89, of Syracuse, died Saturday, October 29, 2016.George was a veteran of the US Navy and served in the South Pacific in WWII. He was a graduate of The University of Florida, and The Episcopal Divinity School at Harvard University. After his service in the Navy and graduation from the University of Florida, George began working for Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity in 1951 beginning 65 years of service to the fraternity. He held many positions in those 65 years including serving as the organization’s international president from 1978-1982. For the past 30 years, Doc served as the fraternity’s spiritual guide and was a mentor, brother and friend to thousands. Fr. George was ordained as an Episcopal priest in 1964 and served Calvary Episcopal Church in Syracuse, NY, from 1968 until his retirement in 1988. In retirement he continued to serve the Episcopal Community as Chaplain to retired clergy and coordinator for Provinces 1&2. He is survived by his wife Kira Dirghalli; children Elisabeth (Dean) Swenson and Stefan (Kelly) Dirghalli; brother Moes Dirghalli; and his grandchildren Benjamin and Kira Dirghalli and Paul and Alex Swenson. A memorial service will be held on November 19, 2016 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, in Syracuse, NY. There will be a calling hour at 4pm and the service will begin at 5:15pm with a reception to follow.
