Obituary of Gordon W. Mohr

Gordon W. Mohr, 94, of Syracuse, died on Sunday at James Square. Mr. Mohr served in the US Army Air Corps during the D-Day invasion of Normandy. He was a glider pilot with the 434th Airborne Division and was the sixth glider to land. He received the Purple Heart for his military service. He retired from the National Grange Insurance Company as an underwriter. Mr. Mohr was an active member of the Gethsemane United Methodist Church, enjoyed golfing and had attended many reunions with his fellow WWII glider pilots. He was predeceased by his wife Angeline and his sister Ruth. Mr. Mohr is survived by his daughters: Maris R. (James) DeStephano, Sherry (Bob) Kohler both of Syracuse; and 3 grandchildren: Mark, Daniel, Jill DeStephano. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 12noon at the Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral home with burial to follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Calling hours will be held before the service from 10am-12pm at the funeral home, 3111 James Street. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Gethsemane United Methodist Church.
