Obituary of Richard John Kratz

Richard J. “Dick” Kratz, 87, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2016. Dick proudly served his country for 25 years and retired from the 174th Tactical Fighter Wing, where he was also a member of the "Boys from Syracuse". He later retired from the City of Syracuse, Department of Parks and Recreation, where you could always find him on a ball field. An avid softball player well into his 70's, he was recently inducted into the New York USSSA Softball Hall of Fame for 50 years of service as an umpire. Something he was very proud of! He enjoyed numerous trips to the casino, was an usher for many shows at the Civic Center and worked a gate at the NYS Fair for over 30 years. Predeceased by his parents, Richard and Erma Kratz; his wife of 64 years, Louise in 2015; a brother Charles; sister Betty; son-in-law Jim Wright and brother-in-law Connie Marcoccia. Survived by sons Bob (Chris), John (Kim); daughter Joni Wright; grandchildren: Mark, Brian, Anthony, Emily Kratz and Tyler Wright; great granddaughter Maeve Kratz and a brother Ronald "Binky" Kratz. There will be no public calling hours. Richard will be laid to rest privately in Assumption Cemetery.
