Mary Eva Baier, 97 of the Eastwood section of Syracuse, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 10. Mary was born in Lanesboro, PA on September 21, 1918 to Charles and Gertrude Blackinton. She came to Syracuse in 1936 were she trained at Onondaga Orphans Home, now Elmcrest as a baby Nurse. Mary married Kenneth Baier November 10, 1941 at Blessed Sacrament Church and then resided with him on Hillsdale Ave. Until he passed away in 1986. They owned the Eastwood Hallmark Card and Book Store for 33 years at three different locations on James St. Mary was an active member of the Eastwood Merchants Association. On May 13, 1983 The Greater Eastwood Chamber of Commerce presented Mary with the Person of the Year award for her outstanding service and dedication. In Mary’s free time she enjoyed Bowling and Golfing. She was very active at the James Street United Methodist Church as a Trustee for many years and Treasurer of the United Methodist Women. Mary will be dearly missed by her two daughters Janet Carlton and her husband David of Windsor, CT, and Phyllis Boehmer - Rielle and her husband Steven of Kirkville; her four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and many extended family members and friends. Memorial Service will be held on April 16 at 11:00 am at the James Street United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Syracuse. Memorial Donations may be directed to the Habitat for Humanity.
