Rocco Fiala, 89, of Syracuse, died on Tuesday at St. Joseph’s Hospital. He was born in Calabria, Italy. His parents were Rocco and Concetta Larosa Fiala. Mr. Fiala worked as a truck driver for Teamsters Local 317 and had formerly worked for the Syracuse City School District and the Parks & Recreation department. He was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church and formerly St. Peters. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Rose; 2 sons: Rocco Fiala Jr. of Rochester, Dominic Peter Fiala of Buffalo; 5 grandchildren and a step granddaughter several nieces and nephews. Rocco was predeceased by his sister Sarah Maurici and his brother Salvatore Fiala.
Funeral services will be held Friday March 11 at 1:30 pm at the Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Mausoleum. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 10:30 to 1:30 at the funeral home, 3111 James Street. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association.
