Jerrold P. "Jerry" O'Brien, 83, of Jamesville, New York, passed away on July 13, 2026. Born July 19, 1942, he was 83.

Jerry was a graduate of St. John the Baptist High School and LeMoyne College, where he earned his BA in Political Science with a minor in Economics. He went on to Syracuse University, earning his MA in Political Science from the Maxwell School and his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the College of Law, graduating eighth in a class of 130. He was a member of the Order of the Coif and the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, and was admitted to practice before the New York State Courts and the U.S. District Court, Northern District of New York.

A veteran, Jerry proudly served in the United States Air Force Reserve, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel.

Jerry practiced law for decades in Central New York, building a career in civil litigation with a focus on tort, insurance, and workers' compensation law. Early in his career, he held positions at several Syracuse-area firms and at Travelers Insurance Company, later serving as law clerk to the Honorable Thomas J. Lowrey, Jr. before establishing his own private practice in 1994. He retired some years later.

An avid and devoted sports fan, Jerry followed Syracuse University athletics, the Boston Red Sox, and the New York Giants with lifelong enthusiasm.

Jerry was predeceased by his mother, Gertrude O'Brien; his father, Paul O'Brien; his sister, Patricia Brady; and his brother, James O'Brien. He is survived by his sister, Joan O'Brien, and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral mass will be held on August 1 at 9am in Blessed Sacrament Church with burial to follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
