Johanna "Joan" McNamara Obituary

Johanna “Joan” McNamara, 94, of Syracuse, passed away on July 23, 2026. She was born in County Kerry, Ireland and came to Syracuse in 1954.

She was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church and a Past Vice President and member of its Altar & Rosary Society. She was a volunteer at the church. She worked on bingo for over 25 years, made sandwiches for the homeless, worked on funeral luncheons, did altar cleaning and was also a greeter at the 5 o’clock mass.

She retired after 40 plus years of dedicated service at Mutual Library Bindry.

She was predeceased by her parents, Ellen and Michael McNamara and five brothers: Patrick, John, Michael, Thomas, Christopher; and a sister, Margaret Rogers.

She is survived by a sister, Mary Griffin; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.

Funeral mass will be held at Blessed Sacrament on Thursday, July 30th at 10:30am with burial to follow in Saint Mary’s Cemetery in Dewitt.
