Mary (Yderstad) Newton Obituary

Mary (Yderstad) Newton, 77, born November 2, 1948, passed away peacefully early Friday morning, January 30, 2026. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She left behind her husband, Bob Newton. They have been together for 15 years, and married for over 9 years. She was the Daughter of the late Arne and Beatrice Yderstad. She was also survived by her four children; Autumn Varga of Olympia, WA; Hope (Varga) Newsome (Micah) of Mobile, AL; Ginger Varga of Yakima, WA; and Luke Varga (Irene) of Auburn, NY. She loved her eight grandchildren; Ian and Haylee Ashby, and Signe Nelson; Rodik, Katie, and Jamie Newsome; and Ella and Jacob Varga. She was the youngest of her family and leaves behind her brother Michael Yderstad (Barbara), and sisters Thale Varana (Edward),  Kathryn (Raymond) Poszywak, and Laura Perez (David) along with several nephews, nieces, and many other family and friends.


Mary worked for over 20 years at the Wells College Bookstore where she made countless friends and helped many students. Bob and Mary enjoyed riding their motorcycle together and with their close friends. She also loved animals and rescued many over the years. Her passing was too soon and she will be dearly missed by her family and many friends.
