Susan Maier Fitzgerald, passed away December 9th at the age of 87. She is predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Michael Kevin Fitzgerald, her son, Michael Maier Fitzgerald (Chip), her brother Peter Maier, and her parents Doris and Edward Maier. 

Susan was a life resident of Syracuse. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Syracuse University where she was president and an active alumni of Chi Omega sorority.  Sue spent the majority of her career teaching first grade at Ed Smith Elementary School. She was very involved in community service through the Corinthian Club, the Junior League of Syracuse, Meals on Wheels, and the Onondaga Garden Club.

Susan had a gift for bringing people together. She graciously hosted countless showers, celebrations, and family gatherings, and was known for making every event feel effortless and special. Family was the center of her world, and nothing brought her greater joy than time spent with her children and grandchildren. She was a cherished friend, colleague, and loved one, and the void left by her passing is immeasurable.

She is survived by her children, Kevin (Beth) Fitzgerald of Bald Head Island, NC; Amy (Joe) Fiorito of East Syracuse, and Meg (Ken) Matteson of Williamson, NY; her beloved grandchildren Erin (Seth), Sean (Daniela), Neil, Maggie, Jake, Peter and Mary Kate; her four great granddaughters, Adeline, Olivia, Clara, and Eva Sofia; her sister-in-law, JoAn (Bill) Feyerabend, and 8 nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life for family and friends will be held Saturday, January 3rd at 11am at Traditions at the Links at Erie Village.
