Obituary of Ronald G. Planty

Ronald G. Planty, 84, of North Syracuse, died on April 14, 2025. Ron was a veteran of the US Air Force.  He had retired in 2001 as the Commissioner of the IT Department for Onondaga County.  He was an active member of the St. Rose of Lima parish and was part of the Social Committee, BINGO and the Bazaar. He was a lifetime member of the Pastimes and an active member of the YMCA. Ron was an avid golfer and lifetime Yankee and SU fan. Ron was a devoted father and proud grandfather who poured his heart into his family. He never missed a chance to show up for them. His presence, support, and love were constants in the lives of his children and grandchildren, and his impact will be felt for generations.
He is pre-deceased by his wife Margaret “Margo” and his parents: Gordon and Ruth Crowley Planty. He is survived by daughters: Karen Cahill of Fayetteville, Susan (John) Bottjer of Land O’Lakes, FL; sons: Michael (Michelle) Planty of Derwood, MD, Ronald Jr. of Derwood, MD; sister Judith L. Caringi of Parishville, NY; brother George V. Planty of North Syracuse; grandchildren: John & Patrick Cahill, Heide & Tyler Bottjer, Samuel & Charles Planty; and several cousins.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 12 noon at the Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home with entombment to follow in Our Lady of Peace Mausoleum. Calling hours will be held from 10am – 12pm in the funeral home before the service.
