Mary Kate Walsh, born on August 25, 1940, in Ireland, passed away on October 23, 2024, in Syracuse, New York. The second of ten children, Mary Kate made a lasting impact on those who knew her.

Mary arrived in Syracuse in 1958, and after traveling back to Ireland, she returned to the United States to graduate from SUNY Oswego. She worked at Syracuse University’s Bird Library until her retirement. Passionate about education, Mary also dedicated part of her life to teaching English as a Second Language to refugees through the Syracuse City Schools.

A beloved member of her community, Mary greatly appreciated her University neighborhood, her neighbors, and the many friends she made throughout her life. Above all, she cherished the time spent with her large extended family and enjoyed frequent get-togethers with her cousins.

Mary is survived by five siblings and many nieces and nephews, primarily in Ireland, as well as numerous cousins in the United States. In accordance with her wishes, there will be no services. Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to Beaver Lake.

She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
