John B. Vita, 85, of Syracuse, died peacefully at his home on Sunday.  John graduated from Blessed Sacrament School, Christian Brothers Academy, LeMoyne College (BBA) 1954, and Syracuse University College of Law (JD) 1959, where he was Associate Editor of the Syracuse Law Review.  He was a practicing attorney for over 50 years in Syracuse and Akron, OH.  John served our country during the Korean War at the US Army Training Center in Fort Dix, NJ from 1955-1956.  His primary duty was Chief Clerk in charge of administrative personnel in Classification and Assignment Section of the Adjutant General’s Office at Fort Dix.    
He was a supporter of CBA and LeMoyne College, chairing reunions and establishing The John ’54 and Mary Vita Scholarship Fund at LeMoyne College in 2010.  John loved music, played the saxaphone, clarinet and piano, led an orchestra and directed musicals at both CBA and LeMoyne College. 
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Alice (Martin) Vita; his daughter, Therese Marie Vita; his brother Ludwig P. (Teresa) Vita; and many nieces and nephews.
He was pre-deceased by his parents: Lena Bartholomew Vita and Samuel Vita, an Italian immigrant, and a sister Angeline Splaine.
A memorial mass will be held on Saturday at 10:30am in Blessed Sacrament Church with interment to follow in Assumption Cemetery.  Calling hours will be held on Friday from 4-8pm at the Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home, 3111 James Street.
