Michael R. Murphy
November 24, 2017
Michael R. Murphy, 66, of Syracuse died Friday, November 24, at Crouse Hospital.
He was a native and life resident of Syracuse and a graduate of Henninger High School. He worked at Corbett Glass Co., Knodel Wholesale Meats and Phinney’s Pet Supply.
The pet store job was a perfect fit for Michael, who over the years owned many animals, especially dogs, including many strays who were clearly in need of rescue. At various times the canine members of the Murphy household included Sheepdog, Simon, Carl, Nora, Lucy, Frank, Bridget and Little Ripper, who as a pup made a name for himself at Michael’s parents’ house when he got stuck behind their refrigerator.
Michael also loved the blues and boxing.
Surviving are two sisters, Mary Wong of Albany and Martha Murphy of Syracuse; two brothers, Mark of Syracuse and Martin of Abington Township, Pa.; two nieces, Olivia Wong of Brooklyn and Eleanor L. Murphy of Abington Township; and a nephew, Anthony Murphy. Michael’s parents, Eleanor F. and Louis A. Murphy, died previously; his brother Matthew died in September.
A memorial mass will be held on Thursday at 10am in ST. Vincent dePaul Church, 342 Vine Street, Syracuse 13203.  Friends may greet the family from 9-10 before the mass in church.
Contributions: Wanderers’ Rest Humane Association, PO Box 535, Canastota, NY 13032.
