Leonard R. Schafer, 89, of Syracuse, died on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at James Square. He had retired from G & L Davis Meat Company after 36 years of service. He was a communicant of Assumption Church. Mr. Schafer was a life member of the Pastime Athletic Club and the G.S.I.O.C. He was pre-deceased by his daughter Jacqueline Farsaci. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. The Schafer family would like to thank the staff at James Square for the care they provided during his stay. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Dorothy Hildman Schafer; 3 sons: Michael (Bonnie), Tim (Sue), Jeffrey; 9 grandchildren and his great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Monday at 10am at the Frasier-Shepardson Funeral Home and at 10:30 in Assumption Church. Burial will follow in Assumption Cemetery. Calling hours are Sunday from 4-7pm at the funeral home, 1217 N. Salina St. Memorial contributions may be made to the Assumption Church, 812 N. Salina St. Syracuse 13208.
