Obituary of David A. Read

Please share a memory of David to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
David A. Read February 11, 2017 David A. Read, 63, passed away at home surrounded by love on February 11, 2017 in Jamesville, New York. He is survived by his wife, Christine Hickey, his son Jeffrey Read, his sister Sharon Barney (Robert), his brothers Robert Read (Barbara), George Read, Kevin Read (Vickie), and Keith Read (Debbie), and his granddaughter Ciara. Predeceased by his parents Robert and Edith Read. David was retired from the postal service but playing drums with fellow musicians for the joy it gave fans was David’s greatest pleasure. David’s excellent timing was something he said his musician friends helped him acquire as a young man. He loved The Beatles, especially Revolver, and brought their influence to his simple, straight-forward sound. He saw his role as supporting the other musicians so that they could play their parts and he would be there, steady as ever, holding them together. Serious, silly, modest, energetic, anxious, handsome, kind, moral, and musical, our David. Calling hours will be Thursday at Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home, 3111 James Street from 4-6:30 with Sharing Memories at 6:30. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to On Point for College, 1654 W. Onondaga St., Syracuse, N.Y. 13204.
