Obituary of Alan George Hierholzer

Alan G. Hierholzer, "Butch", 79, of Lyncourt passed away Saturday, November 26th at The Crossings in Minoa, after a long illness, with his loving family at his side. Butch grew up in Eastwood and graduated from Eastwood High School. He served in the United States Navy on the USS Leyte. Butch retired from CSX Railroad after 44 years. He was previously employed by Dix Typesetting. He was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, where he served as a Legislative Representative. Butch enjoyed his time coaching Lyncourt Little League. He was a avid fan of the New York Yankees, as well as SU football and basketball, and enjoyed many tailgate parties before and after SU games. He was predeceased by his parents, Alan & Lucille; son Jeffrey; and mother in law, Mary Mengel. Butch is survived by his wife of 59 years Joan (Mengel) Hierholzer; daughters Susan (Michael) Busco; Karen (John) Donovan; son John (Kathleen Knaul); granddaughters Katie (Sean) McNabb; Christine (Brad) Bennett; Julie Busco (Brandon Smith); Kelly Donovan; Megan Hierholzer; and great granddaughter Quinn McNabb. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 9AM at the Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home and at 9:30 in St. John the Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Calling hours are Tuesday from 4-7pm at the funeral home, 3111 James Street. Contributions in Butch's memory can be made to The Alzheimer's Association of Central New York, 441 W.
