Obituary of Andrew Richard Masters

Andrew Richard Masters, 88, of Eastwood, passed away quietly at his home with his family on Wednesday, January 20, 2010. He was born August 21, 1921 in Syracuse, the son of Nicholas and Frances Desimone Masters. Mr. Masters served 3 years during WWII in the Second Armored Division of the Third Army in Europe under General Patton. He retired in 1982 after 26 years with Niagara Mohawk, He was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church, and a former member of the Holy Name Society. He volunteered for Bingo for 26 years, and assisted in the Outreach Program stocking the food pantry and making up baskets for many years. He volunteered at the VA hospital pharmacy, receiving an award for 2000 hours of service, and was acknowledged as a blood donor for giving more than 3 ½ gallons of blood. Mr. Masters enjoyed golfing, bowling, and fishing, especially casting for bass. He had a great sense of humor, was proud of his Italian heritage, and was a staunchly proud, patriotic American. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Julia Myrtle Damico Masters, 2 daughters: Marie Luque of Sugardale, TX, Therese Masters of Syracuse; a brother John of Syracuse, a sister Agatha (Frank) Palma of Syracuse; 5 grandchildren: Eric (Kristina) Masters, Douglas and Josh Masters, Joline and Jessica Luque; 3 great-grandchildren: Christopher, Cierra, and Chyeanna Masters, to whom he was endeared. Funeral services will be Monday, January 25 at the Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home at 10:00am and a Mass of Christian Burial at Blessed Sacrament Church at 10:30. Burial in St. Mary's Mausoleum. Calling hours will be on Sunday from 2-5pm at the funeral home 3111 James Street. Contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 810, Memphis, TN, or to the Blessed Sacrament Outreach Program, 3127 James St., Syracuse NY.
